The information gathered on these pages are from the Bureau of Business and Economic Research
branch at the University of Montana Missoula. Each year the economic structure of capitol, energy, growth, inflation and impacts to economics are reviewed. When considering all the data as seen
below, it is clear that Montana is not equal in all ways. For instance, if you review Bozeman area economics you will see that it has had the highest statewide actual growth over the last several
years. In projected income it ranks among the highest in that category as well. In contrast, Butte Montana has seen little actual growth and the projections for the future are almost .nil This leads
one to understand that the economic offerings in each region carry their own opportunities and pitfalls. It should be noted that Gallatin County has the fastest growth rate in Montana for the past 17
years straight. One of the unique features of the Bozeman economy is that it is noted as a "high tech" center in the state. Manufacturing has just replaced Montana State University as the
largest basic industry group in Gallatin County. Many of these local high tech firms have experienced the same types of declines as their national counterparts. As such, a recovery in the nation
market in these ccategorieswould lead to substantially higher growth than Gallatin County. One of Bozeman's bright economic indicators continues to be the growth as a regional trade and service
center, as can be seen on the chart, aapproximately20% of the business in Gallatin County is done here with people traveling for trade and or services. This diversification is broken down as follows;
selected manufacturing 23%, Montana State University 20%, Non Resident Travel 14%, Retail Trade and Services 20%, Federal Government 9%, Mining/Rail/Other 8%, Agriculture 6%. The quality of any
investment portfolio is often rated in its diversity. Likewise, the quality of the economic sstabilityof Gallatin County is found in its diversity as well.
